Rapa Nui (Easter Island)

We decided to visit Chile & Easter Island over the Christmas and New Year holiday. First, we flew from NYC to Santiago, via Miami. From there we hopped on a domestic flight to Temuco, the closest airport to the town of Pucon. Santiago to Temuco is about an hour flight south of Santiago. Once we arrived in Temuco, we rented a car and drove another 1.5 hours to the town of Pucon, known for adventure sports and the beautiful Lake Villarrica with views of Volcan Villarrica, an active volcano.

Termas Geometrica via Villarrica National Park

We love our saunas so we had to visit hot springs called Termas Geometrica. It was a hefty drive away from Pucon but well worth the trip. There are two routes you can take to get there, one is on paved roads that takes about 1.5 hours, the other is through Villarrica National Park that is the off road and more adventurous route. To drive this route you are required by the park to have a 4×4. We arrived at the hot springs after 7PM which worked to our benefit because entry fees were lower and there were fewer people.

Rapa Nui (Easter Island)

Rapa Nui, also known as Easter Island, is a small island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean that can only be reached by flights from Santiago, Chile. There is only one flight a day in that arrives in the morning and the same plane flies out in the afternoon. The island is known for the large ancient stone faces that are found all across the island. Mystery remains as to how they were made and transported to the edges of the island.
